Pakistan says Afghan army fire on border injures two

Pakistani authorities late Wednesday accused the Afghan National Army (ANA) of firing on one of its border checkposts, injuring at least two security personnel. A senior Pakistan security official in the country's northwest said ANA troops started firing at 10:00 pm local time, which triggered an exchange of fire that lasted for two hours on the Pakistan-Afghan border in the Mohmand tribal district. "It was continuous fire on one of our checkpost that forced our troops to retaliate," the official told AFP.

Iran quake blamed for 32 deaths in Pakistan

Tehran, Apr 16 (EFE).- The magnitude-7.8 earthquake that struck southeastern Iran on Tuesday did not cause any fatalities on the Iranian side of the border, officials in Tehran said, while authorities in neighboring Pakistan blamed the temblor for 32 deaths. The temblor occurred at 1044 GMT at a depth of 83 kilometers (52 miles). The epicenter was located at Saravan near the Iran-Pakistan border.

Japan provides USD 6 m to support UNHCR’s refugee programmes in Pakistan

Japan has provided USD 6 million in support of the UNHCR’s refugee programmes in Pakistan and the funds will support UNHCR’s commitment to provide primary school education to around 75,000 refugee children in different refugee villages.
