Japan's ANA to resume Boeing 787 flights on Sunday, saying battery problems fixed

TOKYO - Japan's All Nippon Airways, the launch customer for Boeing's 787 "Dreamliner," will resume commercial flights of the aircraft on Sunday, just over four months after the jets were grounded due to smouldering batteries. ANA said in a statement that it will run five commercial 787 flights in May, before regular, scheduled services begin on June 1. The first will be a commercial flight late Sunday from Chitose, on the northern island of Hokkaido, to Tokyo's Haneda Airport.

Shares in All Nippon Airways and battery maker GS Yuasa surged on Thursday after a report that US and Japanese regulators were preparing to give the green light to the resumption of Dreamliner flights. Japan's Nikkei business daily said aviation safety bosses in both countries could lift the grounding order on the Boeing 787, which has been parked up around the world since January following incidents involving its batteries.

Dreamliner no-fly forces ANA to cancel 681 more flights

Japan's All Nippon Airways (ANA) said Thursday it would cancel 681 flights in March, bringing the number of flights scrapped due to the Boeing Dreamliner's grounding last month to nearly 1,900. ANA said it would cancel 461 domestic flights and 220 international flights in March, including flights bound for Seoul and Seattle. Flight cancellations since the grounding now stand at 1,887 and affect more than 126,000 passengers, the carrier said. ANA is the biggest Dreamliner customer with 17 of the world's 50 operational Boeing 787s.

ANA cancels more flights for Dreamliner grounding

Japan's All Nippon Airways (ANA) said Wednesday it will cancel an additional 368 flights in February, with no end in sight to the global no-fly order on Boeing's Dreamliner. The total number of ANA flights cancelled since the January 16 grounding now stands at more than 1,200, affecting more than 100,000 passengers. ANA said cancellations on domestic routes in the last two weeks of February would amount to 308, while 60 international flights -- including those from Tokyo to Seoul and Seattle -- will be scrapped from February 19 through to the end of the month.
