Country music stars come out to bid George Jones a final farewell

By Tim Ghianni NASHVILLE (Reuters) - Country music legend George Jones' final standing ovation, after a career filled with them, came on Thursday afternoon at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville. And the song that brought about 4,000 fans and friends to their feet was Jones' signature song, "He Stopped Loving Her Today," fittingly a tune about both love and death.

Country music legend George Jones, singer of such enduring hits as "She Thinks I Still Care" during a career that spanned more than half a century, died Friday, his publicist said. He was 81. He passed away at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, eight days after he was admitted to hospital with fever and irregular blood presssure, said Webster and Associates on its website.

Jones, whose career spanned more than six decades and included hits such as "He Stopped Loving Her Today" and "Window Up Above," died at Vanderbilt University Medical Centre, in Nashville. He had been hospitalized since April 18 with fever and irregular blood pressure, spokesman Kirt Webster said.

Kenny Rogers to join Country Music Hall of Fame

Rogers, 74, the husky-voiced three-time Grammy winner best known for songs like The Gambler" and "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town," will be inducted in the "Modern Era" category, the Country Music Association announced.

Bryan, Lambert win big at US country music awards

Luke Bryan and Miranda Lambert won big Sunday as Nashville's biggest names took over Las Vegas for the 48th Academy of Country Music awards. Bryan, 36, was overcome with emotion as Shania Twain presented him with the fan-voted entertainer of the year award at the climax of a three-hour nationally televised gala that he co-hosted with Blake Shelton. "This is the defining moment of my life ... and I will never take it for granted," said the Georgia native, who's just come off his first-ever headlining tour in support of his platinum-selling album "Tailgates and Tanlines."

Lambert, Bryan lead Academy of Country Music award winners

Country singer Gary Allan's new album gets label's early push

But when his record label, MCA Nashville, saw his new song "Every Storm (Runs out of Rain)," race up the charts in September, the label pushed the album's release up two months from March.
