Spain king's scandal-tainted son-in-law has Qatar job offer

Spanish King Juan Carlos' son-in-law Inaki Urdangarin, under investigation for allegedly embezzling million of euros of public money, has received a job offer in Qatar in the handball field, Spanish media reported Monday. The 45-year-old former Olympic handball champion has been invited to accompany Spain's national handball coach Valerio Rivero to Qatar if Valerio agrees to manage the Gulf state's national team, daily newspapers ABC and La Vanguardia as well as radio Cadena Cope reported.

Spain court delays graft hearing of princess

A Spanish court Friday delayed a corruption hearing of King Juan Carlos' daughter Princess Cristina after prosectors lodged an appeal against her summons. Pending the result of the appeal, Judge Jose Castro agreed to postpone his summons for her to testify as a suspect on April 27 at his court in Palma on the Mediterranean island of Mallorca. "Once a decision has been given on the appeal, if its content so allows, a new date will be set," he said.

Spanish prosecutors lodged an appeal Friday against a judge's decision to summon King Juan Carlos's daughter Princess Cristina as a suspect in a corruption case, an unprecedented blow to the royal family's prestige. Handball: Federation overturns Karabatic suspension

An appeal panel at the French handball federation on Friday overturned a six-match suspension against double Olympic champion Nikola Karabatic and two other players over match-fixing claims. Karabatic was one of seven players slapped with a hefty ban on February 5 in connection with a high-profile illegal betting case on the result of a match between league champions Montpellier and Cesson last year. Montpellier lost the game against Cesson 31-28 but suspicions were raised because of large bets placed at half-time on a defeat for the champions.

Handball: Karabatic slapped with maximum suspension

France's star handball player, double Olympic champion Nikola Karabatic, was suspended for six matches on Tuesday, along with six other players accused of betting on a club match suspected of being rigged. The seven players received the maximum suspension allowed under the national handball league's (LNH) regulations. The players, all at the time playing for Montpellier, can carry on playing if they choose to appeal the punishment in the next five days. Karabatic's agent told AFP that he would definitely appeal.

The French handball league (LNH) said on its website (www.lnh.fr) that the Karabatic bothers, Olympic champion Samuel Honrubia, Mladen Bojinovic, Dragan Gajic, Primoz Prost and Issam Tej had been found guilty of having "directly or indirectly, placed bets on the result of the game".
