S. Korean Asiad host vows to disperse 'conflict clouds'

The 2014 Asian Games in South Korea will not be derailed by the "dark clouds of conflict" currently hovering over the Korean peninsula, according to the mayor of the host city Incheon. North and South Korea have been in a state of heightened military tension since the North carried out its third nuclear test in February, raising concerns over the staging of the Asiad in September-October next year.

Crude bombs hurled at Hanif’s Gulshan residence

Tennis: Vekic first seeded casualty at Malaysian Open

Sixth-seed Donna Vekic of Croatia was the first seeded player to be knocked out of the BMW Malaysian Open Tuesday after she lost 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 to American Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the first round. The 16-year-old, who is ranked world number 93 and only turned professional in September, was outmanoeuvred in the match against an opponent who is better known for her doubles play. Olympics: Wrestling out of Olympic programme for 2020 - IOC

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Tuesday opted to remove wrestling from the programme of sports at the 2020 Games, a spokesman said. The decision, taken at the IOC's executive committee meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, means wrestling now faces a fight against seven other sports for inclusion at the Games, the location of which will be decided later this year.
