Landmine kills four civilians: police

Four Malians were killed when their vehicle drove over a landmine in northern territory where French-led forces recently chased out Islamist rebels, Mali's paramilitary police said Thursday. "Yesterday (Wednesday) a vehicle was blown up by a mine placed by the Islamist criminals between Douentza and Gao. There were four deaths," an officer told AFP in Douentza, 800 kilometres (500 miles) northeast of the Malian capital Bamako. The source earlier indicated that those killed had been Malian soldiers, but later said "they were civilians coming from a market".
