Man killed by FBI links Tsarnaev to triple murder

A friend of Tamerlan Tsarnaev implicated himself and the Boston bombing suspect in an unsolved triple homicide before FBI agents killed him in a violent altercation Wednesday, local media reported. The Federal Bureau of Investigation said the man initiated a "violent confrontation" during questioning in Orlando, Florida and was killed, and that an FBI agent suffered "non-life threatening injuries."

Bin Laden son-in-law defends his choice of lawyer

Osama bin Laden's son-in-law, accused of terror related charges, on Tuesday defended his choice of lawyer, a decision that the judge in the case has called a "mistake." "In life every matter has its own risks and I'm ready to take this," Suleiman Abu Ghaith, said at a hearing at the federal court in Manhattan. Abu Ghaith, who appeared in a video September 12, 2001 with the Al-Qaeda leader claiming responsibility for the deadly 9/11 strikes on US targets, is accused of conspiring to kill Americans. He has pleaded not guilty.

US court rules Bin Laden death photos can stay secret

A US appeals court ruled Tuesday that the federal government is not required to release photos that were taken of Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden after he was killed by special forces. The Al-Qaeda leader was slain at his Pakistani compound in May 2011 by US Navy SEAL commandos, who took pictures of their target's corpse in order to confirm the success of their mission. In a 14 page opinion, the judges wrote that The Central Intelligence Agency had refused to release the photos "on the ground that the images were classified Top Secret.

Boston suspect wrote note before capture

Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev wrote a note before his capture in which he called the victims "collateral damage" for US action in Afghanistan and Iraq, local media reported Thursday. "When you attack one Muslim, you attack all Muslims," Tsarnaev also scribbled on the inside wall of the boat where he hid from police during a massive manhunt in the days after the April 15 blasts, according to CBS News. The twin explosions near the finish line of the Boston Marathon killed three people and wounded more than 260.

Attorney for Bin Laden kin girds for 'good fight'

Osama bin Laden's son-in-law has hired a new lawyer to defend him in the trial he faces in the United States, and the appointment stirred some controversy in the court on Wednesday. Suleiman Abu Ghaith, who appeared in a video September 12, 2001 with the Al-Qaeda leader claiming responsibility for the deadly 9/11 strikes on US targets, is accused of conspiring to kill Americans. He has pleaded not guilty. Federal Judge Lewis Kaplan set a January 7, 2014 date to start his trial. The 47-year-old Kuwaiti could be sentenced to life in prison if he is convicted.

Search for 9/11 body parts resumes in New York

Criminal investigators combed for human remains Tuesday in a narrow gap between two Manhattan buildings where a piece of plane wreckage from the 9/11 attacks 12 years ago was unexpectedly discovered last week. Dozens of firefighters and investigators in white suits were on hand for the search two blocks from the World Trade Center, where on September 11, 2001 two hijacked airliners smashed into the Twin Towers, causing massive destruction and nearly 3,000 deaths.

Still 'persons of interest' in Boston probe

Investigators are pursuing other "persons of interest" who may be linked to the deadly bombings at the Boston Marathon, a US lawmaker said Sunday. "There are still persons of interest in the United States that the FBI would like to have conversations with," Congressman Mike Rogers, Republican chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, told ABC's "This Week." He declined to provide a number.

Part found in New York thought to be from 9/11 plane

New York, Apr 26 (EFE).- A piece of landing gear thought to be from one of the two airliners that hijackers crashed into the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, was founded near ground zero, a New York Police Department spokesman confirmed to Efe Friday. The NYPD established a crime scene at the site after receiving a call from the owners of a building at 51 Park Place in Lower Manhattan. The part bears a clearly visible Boeing identification number, police said. Both of the planes used in the attack on the World Trade Center were manufactured by Boeing.

Boston highlights problems tracking 'lone wolves'

The Boston bombings have highlighted the practically impossible task US law enforcement faces in preventing terror attacks by determined radicals acting in isolation, security experts say. Despite evidence that one of the suspects, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, had popped up on the radar of US authorities prior to last week's twin blasts, analysts warn attempting to thwart similar attacks in future may prove futile. Tsarnaev, 26, is suspected of carrying out the April 15 attacks with his brother Dzhokhar, 19, which left three people dead and 264 injured.
