RugbyU: France overpower Auckland Blues

France's second-string players pressed their case for Test selection with a convincing 38-15 win over the Auckland Blues in Albany on Tuesday. France scored four tries to two in a dominant performance, with Fijian-born winger Noa Nakaitaci claiming a double and scrum-half Jean Marc Doussain booting home seven of his eight kicks. Full-back Maxime Medard was the only starting player carried over from France's 12-23 first Test loss to the All Blacks on Saturday, and flanker Yannick Nyanga said his team-mates were looking to catch coach Philippe Saint-Andre's eye.

RugbyU: Medard returns but not as France's saviour

Maxime Medard is set to make his first appearance for France in over a year in Dublin on Saturday but the exciting back says people must not expect miracles from him in the Six Nations clash with Ireland. The 26-year-old Toulouse star - capped 30 times - admits he still carries the effects of the ruptured cruciate ligaments he suffered in the opening Six Nations match with Scotland in February last year.

UPDATE 1-Rugby-Medard one of two changes in France squad

(Adds details, quotes) By Julien Pretot PARIS, Feb 26 (Reuters) - Utility back Maxime Medard completed his comeback from a knee injury on Tuesday when he was named as one of two changes in a 23-man France squad to face Ireland in the Six Nations championship on March 9. Medard, who could start at fullback with Yoann Huget moving to the wing after Benjamin Fall was dropped, returned to action in November after tearing knee ligaments against Scotland in last year's championship.

RugbyU: French call up Vahaamahina, Medard for Ireland

France coach Philippe Saint-Andre on Tuesday called up second row forward Sebastien Vahaamahina and fullback-cum-winger Maxime Medard into his 23-man squad for their March 9 Six Nations tussle with Ireland. Saint-Andre has to conjure a recovery by the French, whose loss to England last week left Les Bleus rooted to the foot of the table after a third straight defeat -- something they had not suffered from the outset since 1982 in the old Five Nations.

Rugby-France back Dulin out of Six Nations squad with injury

PARIS, Jan 25 (Reuters) - France fullback Brice Dulin will be out of action for several weeks because of a hamstring injury and is set to miss most of the Six Nations championship, the French federation (FFR) said on Friday. Fullback Maxime Medard has been called up as a replacement in the 33-man preliminary squad which will gather on Saturday to prepare for the competition, the FFR said in a statement. Winger Vincent Clerc also picked up a minor injury on Friday while playing with his club side Toulouse and is doubtful.
