Thisara Perera removed danger man Anamul Haque off the final ball to hand Sri Lanka a dramatic two-run victory over Bangladesh in the first Twenty20 international in Chittagong on Wednesday. Sri Lanka, the world's top-ranked Twenty20 side, made 168-7 after being sent in to bat and then restricted Bangladesh to 166-7 to take the lead in the two-match series. With Bangladesh needing 17 runs from the final over, Anamul smashed 14 runs off the first five deliveries, but then gave Perera a return catch with the last ball.

New Zealand beat the West Indies by 81 runs in the first Twenty20 international at Eden Park on Saturday. New Zealand, who elected to bat first, made 189-5 and the West Indies were 108-8 at the end of their 20 overs. Australia, after losing the toss, made 248 for six against England in the first Twenty20 international at Southampton on Thursday. It was the second highest innings score in all T20 internationals, behind Sri Lanka's 260 for six against Kenya in Johannesburg in 2007, and the highest by one Test nation against another in this format. Australia's total was built upon Aaron Finch's stunning 156, the highest individual score in all T20 internationals and the first century by an Australian at this level. Sri Lanka won the final Twenty20 international against South Africa by six wickets in Hambantota on Tuesday to retain their number one ranking in the shortest format.
