Australia, after losing the toss, made 248 for six against England in the first Twenty20 international at Southampton on Thursday.
It was the second highest innings score in all T20 internationals, behind Sri Lanka's 260 for six against Kenya in Johannesburg in 2007, and the highest by one Test nation against another in this format.
Australia's total was built upon Aaron Finch's stunning 156, the highest individual score in all T20 internationals and the first century by an Australian at this level.
Finch faced just 63 balls including 11 fours and 14 sixes.
