Football: Juve flying high as main rivals take a dive

With new French recruit Nicolas Anelka in reserve, Juventus went three points clear of Napoli at the top of Serie A on Sunday with a hard-fought 2-1 win at Chievo. Third-placed Lazio lost ground as they went down to Genoa's winner five minutes into stoppage time from on-loan midfielder Marco Rigoni. Lazio appeared to have escaped after an 82nd minute penalty equaliser from captain Stefano Mauri but Rigoni's late strike saw Genoa snatch a dramatic 3-2 win and move a point above the relegation zone.

Soccer-Juve good enough to win Champions League, says Anelka

Feb 1 (Reuters) - Serie A leaders Juventus are strong enough to win the Champions League this season for the third time in their history, new signing Nicolas Anelka said on Friday. The much-travelled former France striker joined the Italian giants in January on a five-month deal, ending a one-year spell with China's Shanghai Shenhua.

Jan 26 (Reuters) - Former Arsenal, Real Madrid and Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka has joined Juventus on a five-month deal from China's Shanghai Shenhua, the Italian club said on Saturday. Juventus general manager Beppe Marotta told Sky Sport Italia that the 33-year-old ex-France international would help solve an "emergency" situation in attack. "It can be a good move for the short term, then at the end of the season we'll evaluate what must be done," he said.
