Singer Morrissey cancels rest of U.S. tour due to health problems

By Alex Dobuzinskis LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Singer Morrissey has cancelled the remainder of his U.S. tour for medical reasons, after suffering a number of ailments in recent months including a bleeding ulcer and double pneumonia, his spokeswoman said. The former front man for the alternative rock band The Smiths has pulled out of the last 22 concerts on his itinerary, starting with one scheduled for Monday in Lawrence, Kansas, his publicist, Lauren Papapietro, said late on Friday.

Morrissey cancels US tour due to health problems

Former Smiths frontman Morrissey has cancelled the rest of his US tour due to a string of medical problems, his publicist said on Saturday. The 53-year-old British singer was forced to call off 22 concerts across the United States after suffering double pneumonia, a bleeding ulcer and Barrett's oesophagus in recent months. "Despite his best efforts to try to continue touring, Morrissey has to take a hiatus and will not be able to continue on the rest of the tour," his publicist Lauren Papapietro said.

In the latest rejig of US tour dates due to health woes, Saturday's canceled concert in San Francisco will now take place on May 1. Singer Morrissey requests meat-free venue for Los Angeles concert

LOS ANGELES, Feb 19 (Reuters) - British singer Morrissey has convinced a Los Angeles concert venue to not sell meat at concessions during his performance next month. The longtime animal rights activist and former singer for 1980s rock group The Smiths urged the Staples Center arena to shutter the concession stands of fast food chain McDonald's and to halt the sale of meat by other outlets at the venue for his March 1 performance.

US concert venue bans meat for Morrissey

British singer and ex-Smiths frontman Morrissey has persuaded the venue of an upcoming Los Angeles show to ban sales of meat by food vendors, the vegetarian activist said. The sold-out March 1 concert will be the first time the LA concert venue has agreed to go 100 percent vegetarian, a request denied even to ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney, Morrissey said. "I don't look upon it as a victory for me, but a victory for the animals," he said in a statement cited by US and other media.
