Singer Morrissey cancels rest of U.S. tour due to health problems

The former front man for the alternative rock band The Smiths has pulled out of the last 22 concerts on his itinerary, starting with one scheduled for Monday in Lawrence, Kansas, his publicist, Lauren Papapietro, said late on Friday.

Former Smiths frontman Morrissey has cancelled the rest of his US tour due to a string of medical problems, his publicist said on Saturday. The 53-year-old British singer was forced to call off 22 concerts across the United States after suffering double pneumonia, a bleeding ulcer and Barrett's oesophagus in recent months. "Despite his best efforts to try to continue touring, Morrissey has to take a hiatus and will not be able to continue on the rest of the tour," his publicist Lauren Papapietro said.

LOS ANGELES, Jan 27 (Reuters) - British rock singer Morrissey is postponing six performances on his U.S. tour due to a bleeding ulcer, his spokeswoman said on Sunday. "Morrissey is expected to make a full recovery and thanks everyone concerned for their support during this time," his representative Lauren Papapietro said in a statement. Morrissey, the former lead singer for 1980s alternative rock band The Smiths, checked into Beaumont Hospital on Friday in the Detroit suburb of Royal Oak, Papapietro said.
