Cricket: Small comfort in Australia T20 win over Bangladesh

Pre-tournament favourites Australia finished their unimpressive World Twenty20 campaign with a comfortable seven-wicket win over Bangladesh in Dhaka on Tuesday. Openers Aaron Finch scored a 45-ball 71 and David Warner knocked a fiery 35-ball 48 to help Australia chase down a 154-run target in 17.3 overs in the Super-10 Group Two match. Australia and hosts Bangladesh had lost their first three matches and were playing for pride in a match with no bearing on semi-final positions.

Cricket: Bangladesh bat in Australia World Twenty20 match

Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and opted to bat in the World Twenty20 Super-10 Group Two match against Australia in Dhaka on Tuesday. Both teams were already out of the semi-finals after losing all their three previous matches. Bangladesh were forced to bring in 18-year-old paceman Taskin Ahmed for his Twenty20 international debut after Mashrafe Mortaza was ruled out due to a knee problem. They also brought in Mominul Haque and Sohag Gazi in place of Shamsur Rahman and Ziaur Rahman.

England skipper Stuart Broad took three wickets to restrict the Netherlands down to 133-5 in their World Twenty20 Super-10 Group one match in Chittagong on Monday. Broad unleashed a tight line and length to finish with 3-24 in his four overs as the Netherlands failed to score big after they were put into bat on a flat Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury stadium pitch. Wesley Barresi top-scored with a 45-ball 48 studded with two boundaries and two sixes. Barresi added 50 for the second wicket with Stephan Myburgh who made a brisk 31-ball 39 with six boundaries and a six.

Cricket: Netherlands upset England in World Twenty20

The Netherlands upset 2010 champions England with a 45-run victory in their Super-10 group one match at the World Twenty20 in Chittagong on Monday. England, chasing a modest 134-run target, were bowled out for 88 in 17.4 overs in their last group match at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury stadium. Pacemen Logan van Beek and Mudassar Bukhari took three wickets apiece. The Netherlands, sent into bat, had made 133-5 in their 20 overs, with Wesley Barresi scoring 48 and Stephan Myburgh 39. Stuart Broad was the pick of England bowlers with 3-24 in his four overs.

Play was disrupted in the World Twenty20 Group One match between England and South Africa in Chittagong Saturday because of floodlight failure on two occasions. South Africa, sent into bat, were 17-0 after 1.4 overs when a floodlight tower failed, forcing the players to walk off the field. The lights were out for ten minutes at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury stadium before the players came back out and play continued.

Cricket: India send Bangladesh in to bat in World T20

Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and opted to bowl in the World Twenty20 group two Super-10 match against Bangladesh in Dhaka on Friday. India remained unchanged from the side which beat the West Indies on Sunday. A win will send India into the semi-finals from this group after title-holders the West Indies beat Australia by six wickets in an earlier match on Friday.

Cricket: Windies rout Bangladesh to stay alive in World T20

Dwayne Smith smashed 72 off 43 balls before spinner Samuel Badree claimed 4-15 as the West Indies thrashed hosts Bangladesh by 73 runs in a key World Twenty20 match in Dhaka on Tuesday. The defending champions, who needed a win to stay in contention for the semi-finals after losing to India on Sunday, piled up 171-7 and then bowled out Bangladesh for a paltry 98 in the Super-10 group two match.
