Japan's Date-Krum upsets Italy's Pennetta in Monterrey

Mexico City, Apr 1 (EFE).- Japanese veteran Kimiko Date-Krumm scored the first big upset of the Monterrey Open, defeating Italy's Flavia Pennetta, the top seed, 7-5, 6-2. The 43-year-old Date Krumm, who is ranked No. 98 in the world, served well and played patiently, sitting back and waiting for the 32-year-old Pennetta to make mistakes and then capitalizing on the errors. Pennetta's ground game was erratic and she repeatedly double-faulted on serve during Monday's match.
