RugbyU: North's Test chances improve, Roberts in doubt

George North has an outside chance of being fit for the British and Irish Lions against the Wallabies in Saturday's opening Test, but Jamie Roberts is in "grave doubt", team officials said on Monday. The powerful Welsh wing has been struggling with a tight hamstring from last week's 64-0 win over the Combined Country, while compatriot centre Roberts has an injured right hamstring. The tourists' head medical officer James Robson said North has been improving, but Roberts is battling to be fit to face the Wallabies in Brisbane on Saturday.

RugbyU: 'Fresh' England leave Italy fearful of Slam job

Grand Slam-chasing England may have promoted several players from the bench for Sunday's Six Nations clash at home to Italy but don't tell Azzurri boss Jacques Brunel they are under-strength. England, bidding for a first Championship clean sweep since their World Cup winning year of 2003, have won all of their previous 18 Tests against Italy, who've beaten all the other major European nations, and it would be one of the all-time great upsets were they to be stopped in their tracks this weekend.

RugbyU: Slam seekers England still to peak, says coach

England coach Stuart Lancaster said there was more to come from his youthful side after they moved closer to a Six Nations Grand Slam with a 23-13 victory over World Cup finalists France at Twickenham. "Our players know they have been through a very tough 80 minutes. France brought their 'A' game and put us under a lot of pressure," said Lancaster. "It shows a great level of maturity for a young side, average age of 24, 200-odd caps, that's it, and playing a side that's been to a World Cup final and have lots of world-class players and 500 caps in their side."

RugbyU: Tuilagi's lucky try keeps England on course for Slam

Manu Tuilagi scored a fortunate try as England remained on course for a Six Nations Grand Slam with a 23-13 win over France at Twickenham on Saturday. Owen Farrell kicked 12 points and replacement fly-half Toby Flood landed two late penalties as England inflicted a third straight defeat of the tournament on bottom-of-the-table France -- 'Les Bleus' worst start to a Championship since they lost their opening three games in the 1982 Five Nations.

LONDON, Feb 23 (Reuters) - England withstood the stiffest of examinations from a revitalised France on Saturday but, thanks to the goalkicking of Owen Farrell and a try by Manu Tuilagi, emerged 23-13 winners of their Six Nations clash at Twickenham. For an hour France were unrecognisable from the team beaten by Italy and Wales in their opening games and scored a brilliant individual try through centre Wesley Fofana to deservedly lead 10-9 at the break.

RugbyU: England prepare Tuilagi for tough French exam

England expect Manu Tuilagi to have one of the toughest matches of his international career when the recalled centre faces France in the Six Nations at Twickenham on Saturday. Hosts England go into the match bidding for a Grand Slam whereas France are in the highly unusual position of being bottom of the table after back-to-back defeats by Italy and Wales.
