Ark. AG asks state's high court to uphold $1.2B fine against Johnson & Johnson, subsidiary

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Arkansas' attorney general filed a brief Tuesday backed by his counterparts in 35 other states asking the Arkansas Supreme Court to uphold a $1.2 billion fine levied against Johnson Attorney General Dustin McDaniel called on the justices to reject the companies' appeal of a Pulaski County jury's ruling last year in which it found that the drug makers downplayed and hid risks associated with taking Risperdal. The companies have asked the Arkansas Supreme Court to overturn that ruling.

Exhibit presents myths and reality of Spanish Florida

Miami, May 30 (EFE).- The miniature versions of the San Marcos fort and an Apalachee Indian village as well as the recreation of the myth of the Fountain of Youth are available to the public in the "Imagining La Florida" exhibit, which offers an "exciting tour" of the Spanish colonial period, curator J. Michael Francis said. The exhibit interactively and pleasantly illustrates the first two centuries in the history of Florida starting with its discovery by Juan Ponce de Leon in 1513, Francis, a professor at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg, told Efe on Thursday.

Jones, whose career spanned more than six decades and included hits such as "He Stopped Loving Her Today" and "Window Up Above," died at Vanderbilt University Medical Centre, in Nashville. He had been hospitalized since April 18 with fever and irregular blood pressure, spokesman Kirt Webster said.

Replica of ancient Spanish galleon arrives in Miami

Miami, Apr 15 (EFE).- The replica of a 16th century galleon that sails the world's seas spreading the story of Spanish navigation, arrived Monday in Miami for the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon's discovery of Florida. The ship sailed to Miami from Puerto Rico, where it was visited by 10,500 people since it opened to the public in early March at the Port of San Juan.

Two killed in bus crash in Texas

At least two people were killed and many others injured when a charter bus carrying elderly people crashed Thursday in the U.S. state of Texas, APA reports quoting U.S. media.The bus were transporting the elderly people to a casino in Oklahoma when it swerved off the northbound lanes of President George Bush Turnpike near Dallas, Texas, hit a concrete barrier and flipped, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.Media reports gave different accounts of people aboard the bus.
