6 Slain near Mexican resort city

Mexico City, Apr 26 (EFE).- Six people were killed and two others wounded in a shooting near the Mexican resort city of Acapulco, the Guerrero state Attorney General's Office said. The eight victims were gathered on the bank of a dried-up riverbed in the village of Los Organos when gunmen arrived and started shooting, the AG's office said. Federal, state and municipal security forces began a search for the shooters. The two wounded survivors were taken to a hospital in Acapulco and their names are being held to protect them, according to the official statement.

Journalist murdered in central Mexico

Puebla, Mexico, Apr 16 (EFE).- A journalist was murdered as he left a bank in Puebla, a city in central Mexico, officials said. Alonso de la Colina Sordo, who was the host of a television show in the southern state of Guerrero until February, was gunned down on Monday. Guerrero is one of the state's most affected by drug-related violence in Mexico. The 50-year-old journalist was shot near the heart outside a bank branch in a shopping center in Puebla. The journalist "was approached in the shopping center's parking lot by a man," police chief Juan Luis Galan said.

Six strangled, one decapitated in Mexican resort of Cancun

CANCUN, Mexico (Reuters) - Six people were found strangled to death and one decapitated in the southern Mexican tourist resort of Cancun on Sunday, the state's deputy attorney general said, in the latest mass killing to strike the city in the last few weeks. Police found the bodies of the five men and two women in a shack in the outskirts of Cancun, a major tourist destination on Mexico's Caribbean coast, that has largely escaped the drug-related violence that has racked Acapulco, a faded tourist destination on the Pacific coast.

An earthquake rattled the Pacific resort of Acapulco late Thursday and was felt as far north as Mexico City, causing buildings to sway, but there were no immediate reports of damage. The US Geological Survey said the 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck 81 kilometers (50 miles) west of Acapulco at 0158 GMT. Mexico's seismology center measured it at 5.3. The temblor, which had a depth of 24.4 kilometers (15.1 miles), was 285 kilometers (177 miles) southwest of Mexico City, the USGS said. Mexico arrests 7th suspect, a teen, in Acapulco rape

A teenager was arrested for the rape of six Spanish tourists last month in the Mexican resort city of Acapulco, the Guerrero state attorney said Thursday. The latest arrest in the grisly crime puts the final suspect in the case behind bars, said the southwestern state's attorney general Martha Elva Garzon. She declined to give the suspect's name or age, but said he was being held at a special center for teenagers in Chilpancingo, the state capital. Belgian tourist murdered in Mexican Pacific resort city

Acapulco, Mexico, Feb 24 (EFE).- A Belgian tourist was gunned down by several men who attempted to steal his luxury car in the Mexican Pacific resort city of Acapulco, prosecutors said. Jan K.M. Sarens was killed by a gunshot "in the left side of the chest" in Diamante, one of the most upscale sections of the resort city, the Guerrero state Attorney General's Office said. The 59-year-old tourist was murdered around 4:43 p.m. on Saturday, the AG's office said.
