NHL: Long-time Predators coach Trotz steps down

The Nashville Predators will have a new coach for the first time since their inception in 1998 after Barry Trotz stepped down on Monday. Trotz, who has a record of 557-479-160 with the Predators, is the only coach the National Hockey League team has known. The 51-year-old Canadian was the longest-tenured coach in the league and the second-longest in North American major pro sports, behind only Gregg Popovich of the National Basketball Association's San Antonio Spurs.

Predators fire longtime head coach Trotz

(Reuters) - Barry Trotz has been fired as head coach of the Nashville Predators after failing to lead the team to the National Hockey League playoffs in each of the last two seasons, the team said on Monday. Trotz, who was the longest tenured coach in the NHL and the only coach in the Predators' 15-season history, was fired a day after the 2013-14 campaign ended. "Our organization has high expectations and we have not met them in the past two seasons," David Poile, general manager of the Predators, said in a statement.

The Nashville Predators applied the latest blow on Thursday night, handing the skidding Coyotes their sixth straight loss with a 2-0 shutout at sold-out Bridgestone Arena.

The Coyotes trail Dallas by two points - with a game in hand - and are trying to stay alive in the playoff hunt until they host the Stars in the regular-season finale. "The bottom line is now we’re in a situation where we’ve got to win out," Phoenix coach Dave Tippett said. "That’s just the way it is."

Stars used balanced attack to dismantle Predators

Stars used balanced attack to dismantle Predators DALLAS -- Dallas Stars coach Lindy Ruff was preaching how much his team needs balanced scoring. That message was received, with Dallas getting goals from seven different players in an impressive 7-3 victory against the Nashville Predators on Friday night at American Airlines Center. "We got some good breaks," Ruff said. "We had a couple put in by their defensemen. We got enough pucks going to the net and got rewarded for it."
