Fuel spill off Ukraine's coast extends for more than 2 sq. miles

Kiev, Mar 14 (EFE).- A fuel spill in the Black Sea just off the coast of Ukraine's Odessa province extends for 5.2 sq. kilometers (2 sq. miles), environmental officials said Thursday. The spill "extends in the direction of Romania in the form of a 5.28-sq.-kilometer triangle," local news agencies reported, citing a statement from the SIE environmental inspection service. The two nearest maritime ports lack the ships and personnel to clean up and contain the spill, the statement said.

A gas build-up caused the explosion that rocked the headquarters of Mexico's state-owned oil firm last week, killing 37 people, officials said Monday, ruling out a bomb attack. Rescuers dug through the night while investigators searched for answers on Friday after an explosion rocked the headquarters of Mexican state-run oil giant Pemex, killing 25 people. Another 101 people were injured in the explosion, which sent shocked employees pouring out of the 54-floor Mexico City skyscraper beneath a pillar of black smoke, some carrying wounded people out on office chairs.
