Preview: Sharks at Coyotes

The San Jose Sharks conclude their regular season when they visit the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday in a tuneup for the postseason. San Jose, which will face Los Angeles in the first round of the playoffs, prevented Colorado from clinching the Central Division by posting a 5-1 triumph on Friday. The Phoenix Coyotes came up small in one of their biggest games of the season and now face an uphill battle to make the playoffs as they prepare to host the Edmonton Oilers on Friday night. The Coyotes remain tied with the Dallas Stars for the final wild-card slot in the Western Conference.

The Los Angeles Kings look to build off their first victory in six games when they visit the Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday. The Kings registered only 15 goals over the last nine contests, but came up with a big effort in the 1-0 victory at San Jose on Monday to give them a little more cushion in the Western Conference playoff chase. While Los Angeles sits in sixth place, the Coyotes are in ninth and have yielded 15 goals over the last four outings - managing only one victory.

The Edmonton Oilers look to end their five-game winless streak when they host the Phoenix Coyotes on Friday. Edmonton is 0-4-1 since posting an overtime victory over Pittsburgh on Jan. 10, earning its lone point in an overtime loss at Winnipeg on Saturday. Jordan Eberle scored with five minutes remaining in the third period, but it wasn't enough as the Oilers dropped a 2-1 decision to Vancouver on Tuesday.

The Calgary Flames look to halt their four-game winless streak (0-3-1) as they begin a five-game homestand against the Phoenix Coyotes on Wednesday. Since posting a 2-0 shutout over Carolina on Jan. 13 to end a three-game slide during which it scored a total of one goal, Calgary has dropped four straight - including a 3-2 decision at San Jose on Monday. On the bright side, the Flames have scored two goals in each of their last five contests after totaling six tallies over their previous eight games (1-7-0).

After snapping a season-high four-game losing streak, the Phoenix Coyotes attempt to register consecutive wins for the first time in over a month when they host the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. Mike Smith turned aside all 29 shots he faced to make Antoine Vermette's power-play goal in the first period stand up in a 1-0 victory over Vancouver on Thursday. The regulation win was Smith's first since Dec. 12, which is the last time the Coyotes have secured back-to-back victories.

The Phoenix Coyotes take their ailing offense into Canada's capital to face the Ottawa Senators on Saturday afternoon. The Coyotes, who mustered three goals during their three-game winless streak, try to end a six-game slide in Ottawa dating back to Dec. 12, 1998. The desert didn't provide a favorable backdrop for Phoenix, which suffered a 4-3 overtime loss to the Senators on Oct. 15.

The Phoenix Coyotes snapped a three-game slide at home with a decisive victory on Thursday. The Coyotes look to continue heading in the right direction when they host the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Mike Ribeiro collected a goal and two assists as Phoenix breezed to a 6-3 victory over the sputtering New York Islanders.

Preview: Coyotes at Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks kick off their five-game homestand when they host the Phoenix Coyotes on Friday. Vancouver is coming off a pair of road wins, including a 3-1 triumph at Nashville on Tuesday in which Ryan Kesler scored the go-ahead goal and an insurance tally in the third period.
