Iran's Jalili says Istanbul nuclear talks 'long and useful'

Iran's top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili said on Thursday that nuclear talks with the EU'S foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton were "long and useful" and that both sides have decided to continue the discussions. "Last night, as Lady Ashton said, we had long, useful talks," Jalili said in Istanbul. "We had the chance to go into details. We decided to continue working and keep on our talks." Ashton called the talks "useful" in a statement on Wednesday and said it was time to "reflect on how to go to the next stage of the process".

Iran's Jalili hails 'more realistic' nuclear talks

World powers are taking a "more realistic" approach to the Iranian nuclear standoff, Tehran's chief negotiator said Wednesday, announcing a resumption of talks in March and then at a higher level in April. "Some of the points raised in their (the world powers') response were more realistic comparing to what they said in the past," Saeed Jalili told reporters after two days of talks wound down over the decade-old nuclear impasse in the Kazakh city of Almaty.

Iran pledges full support to Damascus: Jalili

A senior Iranian security official visiting Damascus on Saturday pledged Tehran's full support for the Syrian regime, its close ally, Syrian state television said. "We will give all our support so that Syria remains firm and able to face all the arrogant (Western) conspiracies," said Saeed Jalili, who heads the Supreme National Security Council. "The Israeli aggression and arrogant international forces have tried to take revenge by attacking the resisting Syrian people," said Jalili, who said Israel and the West had turned "desperate."
