Ski jumping: Hendrickson edges Takanashi into second

American ski jumper Sarah Hendrickson's excellent end to the World Cup campaign continued on Sunday as she won the final event of the season here. The 18-year-old world champion - who won in Trondheim on Friday - beat overall World Cup winner Sara Takanashi of Japan while Jacqueline Seifriedsberger of Japan was third. It was Hendricksson's fourth win of the season and 13th of her career but was only good enough for her to finish second in the overall standings for the second successive year.

World champion American Sarah Hendrickson won the Trondheim World Cup ski-jumping event on Friday ahead of Japanese teenager Sara Takanashi. It was the American's third win of the season as she scored 283 points to Takanashi's 274.9, with Austria's Jacqueline Seifriedsberger third on 271.2. It was the same podium finish as at the Worlds in Val di Fiemme last month. Japanese favourite Sara Takanashi, the World Cup champion, had to settle for the silver medal in the women's ski jumping final at the Nordic world championships on Friday. The 16-year-old scored 251 points but was beaten into second spot by American rival Sarah Hendrickson who won gold with 253.7 points. Austria's Jacqueline Seifriedsberger claimed the bronze on 237.2 points. "Sarah is my favorite jumper. I admire her jumps, I look at the way she jumps during the competition and they were remarkable," said Takanashi.

The teenager scored 251 points but was beaten into second spot by American rival Sarah Hendrickson who won gold with 253.7 points. The 16-year-old leaped the longest jumps of 95.5 metres and 93.5m for 228.0 points among the 33 athletes to win the 11th leg, which had been postponed from Saturday due to strong winds. Jacqueline Seifriedsberger of Austria was second on 212.0 points, followed by Carina Vogt of Germany on 207.1 points.

Ski jumping: World Cup event in Japan postponed

Strong winds forced the 11th World Cup women's ski jumping event on Saturday in Zao, Japan, to be postponed by one day, organisers said. The first round of the event was halted after 27 of the 33 contestants ended their jumps in the morning. It was restarted in the afternoon but finally scrapped after only four jumped. The organisers decided to stage the 11th and 12th events of the 16-round season together on Sunday.

Ski jumping: Seifriedsberger secures first World Cup win

Jacqueline Seifriedsberger claimed her first World Cup victory in the women's ski jumping in Sapporo on Sunday as Japan's local hopeful Sara Takanashi sank to fifth. The 22-year-old Austrian, who had finished at her previous best of second on Saturday, marked 94.0 metres in the first round and 93.0m in the final for a total of 245.7 points on the 10th leg of the 16-round series. Previously, Seifriedsberger's highest finishes were third place three times, two of them last month.
