RugbyU: England rout Italy to put pressure on Ireland

Full-back Mike Brown scored two tries and Owen Farrell added 22 points to secure a 52-11 rout of Italy at the Stadio Olimpico and put England within sight of the Six Nations title on Saturday England's fourth win of the series put them top of the table ahead of Ireland's clash against France in Paris later where a French victory could hand England the title. Vowing to concentrate on their own task of defending a 19-match unbeaten run against Italy, England produced a solid performance throughout and were rarely troubled by a supposedly formidable Italian pack or defence.

RugbyU: Late Weir drop goal stuns Italians

A superb Duncan Weir drop goal in the final minute of play gave Scotland a stunning 21-20 victory over Italy at Rome's Olympic Stadium in an enthralling Six Nations clash on Saturday. Scotland's first victory of this campaign will ease fears of the dreaded wooden spoon, which is now a distinct prospect for Italy who remain pointless after three matches. Scotland trailed 13-3 at half-time after an insipid half by both sides was lit up only by the incisive Tommaso Allan.

Rugby Union: Italy survive late scare to beat Fiji 37-31

Italy survived a late fightback by Fiji to secure an edgy 37-31 win over the South Pacific Islanders in the second test of their November series on Saturday. A week after a 50-20 mauling by Australia in Turin, coach Jacques Brunel had called for a determined performance by his unconvincing Azzurri. But on what was the 100th appearance for No.8 and skipper Sergio Parisse and prop Martin Castrogiovanni, the hosts were made to work by a determined and at times ill-disciplined Fiji, who launched a late fighback with two tries in the final eight minutes.

RugbyU: Brunel wants more from history-making Italy

Italy coach Jacques Brunel insisted his side have plenty to do if they are to become a true force to be reckoned with despite finishing their Six Nations campaign on a high with an historic win over Ireland. Ireland took the road to Rome hoping to finish a torrid campaign with a win at a sun-drenched Olympic Stadium, but Declan Kidney's injury-hit squad succumbed 22-15 with Italy scoring the only try. Italy had shown the same signs of marked improvement in a determined first outing last month when they secured a deserved 23-18 win at home to France.

RugbyU: England survive Italy fright to keep Slam bid alive

England came through a huge scare to keep their Grand Slam hopes alive with an unconvincing 18-11 victory over Italy in the Six Nations Championship at Twickenham on Sunday. When Italy scored the only try of the match, through Australia-born wing Luke McLean in the 49th minute, they cut England's lead to 15-11. But England, with recalled fly-half Toby Flood kicking all of the hosts' points courtesy of six penalties, hung on to set up a title-decider away to champions Wales on Saturday.
