Tennis: Aussies, Germany bid to end decades of Fed Cup pain

Australia and Germany aim to end decades of Fed Cup pain when they clash in the semi-finals while Italy and the Czech Republic, the current tournament heavyweights, face off in the other last-four tie. Australia's last final appearance was in 1993 when they lost to Spain while the most recent of their seven titles came way back in 1974 when Evonne Goolagong was in her pomp. Germany haven't won the competition since 1992 when Steffi Graf and Anke Huber starred in the team which defeated Spain.

Tennis: Oudin replaces Stephens on US Fed Cup team

Australian Open semi-finalist Sloane Stephens was replaced on the US Fed Cup team by Melanie Oudin on Sunday for the Americans' first-round tie next week at Italy. Teen star Stephens, ranked a career-high 17th in the world and 10-3 on the season, said she suffered an abdominal strain during her Australian Open run. "I played a lot more matches than I expected in four straight weeks in Australia and need to be careful not to let this ab injury sideline me for a long time," Stephens said.
