Yachting: Di Benedetto brings curtain down on Vendee Globe

Alessandro Di Benedetto brought down the curtain on the Vendee Globe solo round-the-world yacht race on Friday when he crossed the finishing line in Team Plastique to take 11th and last place. Nearly a month after the winner, Frenchman Francois Gabart, arrived back in the French Atlantic port of Les Sables d'Olonne on January 27, the Italian skipper completed the course in 104 days, two hours and 34 minutes. Twenty yachts set off on November 10 at the start of the seventh edition of the race, which is held every four years, but only 11 completed the course.
