RugbyL: Tigers off the bottom with win over Rovers

JUSTIN Carney scored a try in either half as Castleford Tigers ended a run of successive defeats with a 32-24 win over Hull Kingston Rovers to move off the bottom of the Super League. Carney, who enjoyed spells at Canberra and Sydney in the NRL, scored right on half-time to make it 12-12 and again with 14 minutes left to help Castleford build a 26-18 lead. Ryan Boyle, Michael Shenton and Jonathan Walker had all scored themselves up to that point with Jordan Tansey adding a sixth try five minutes after Carney's second to make it 32-18.

RugbyL: Wolves coach Smith admits no Cup mercy

Warrington head coach Tony Smith admitted to fielding a strong team in the 74-4 Challenge Cup fourth round defeat of Keighley Cougars so that the Wolves can get back on form in the Super League. The defending champions headed to the Cougars having not strung a sequence of wins together in the Super League for four games however there was little doubt they would see off the Championship outfit.

RugbyL: Warrington welcome back Waterhouse

Warrington head coach Tony Smith is adamant returning second-row Trent Waterhouse will make an impact in their Super League clash with Huddersfield even if he's unlikely to last 80 minutes. The 32-year-old former Australia international, who made nearly 200 appearances for Penrith in the NRL, has been unavailable for the Wolves' last three games with a lower back strain. However he is back for the visit of Super League leaders Huddersfield on Friday, included in the 19-man squad along with Ben Harrison, who returns from a hernia operation.

RugbyL: Plenty of work to do, says Warrington coach

Warrington head coach Tony Smith insists there is plenty for his side to work on despite seeing them kick off their 2013 Super League season in style with a 40-24 win over Castleford Tigers. The Wolves, runners-up in the Grand Final last year as well as defending Challenge Cup champions, start this season as favourites for the first Super League title in their history. And they looked in promising form in their season curtain-raiser on Sunday, Ben Westwood crossing twice and Brett Hodgson kicking five goals in the victory.
