Soccer-Palermo sack Gasperini for second time this season

March 11 (Reuters) - Palermo sacked coach Gian Piero Gasperini for the second time in a season on Monday as owner Maurizio Zamparini desperately battles to avoid the drop. A statement said the Serie A club were now mulling who would take over with media reports speculating that Giuseppe Sannino, who managed the side for the first three games of the campaign, was favourite to be re-appointed.

With Palermo struggling to make a clean break from the relegation zone, speculation that Gasperini would not last the season had recently increased. Palermo's 12th defeat of the campaign, after 23 matches, saw the Sicilian side drop to the foot of the table as Siena climbed off the bottom after their 3-1 win over Inter Milan.
