RugbyU: France rue lost chance to down All Blacks

France coach Philippe Saint-Andre cut a dejected figure Saturday as he lamented missing a rare opportunity to beat the world champion All Blacks at Eden Park. The All Blacks won the untidy encounter 23-13 and outscored France two tries to one. It was a match Les Bleus were desperate to win after their narrow 8-7 loss to the All Blacks in their last encounter -- the World Cup final on the same ground two years ago.

RugbyU: Don't make us scapegoats for 6Nations woe - French clubs

French clubs on Wednesday fired back at criticism labelling them as the main reason France performed so badly in the recently-concluded Six Nations. France finished the tournament with the wooden spoon, with just one victory to their credit, over Scotland, and a draw against Ireland. France coach Philippe Saint-Andre laid a large part of the blame for the poor performances at the door of an overloaded domestic playing schedule, which he hopes will be revised when the clubs, the players representatives and the French federation meet in the coming weeks.

RugbyU: I'm staying, says combative Saint Andre

France coach Philippe Saint-Andre came out fighting on Sunday insisting that despite a dreadful Six Nations campaign, he was staying on as originally planned untill the 2015 World Cup. The 45-year-old, who replaced Marc Lievremont after the 2011 World Cup, defended his record saying that it was a work in progress. Saint-Andre was speaking the day after his side had earned their first point of the tournament fighting back from a 13-3 half-time deficit to draw 13-13 with Ireland.

RugbyU: We must win at all costs, says Dusautoir

France must do whatever it takes to beat Ireland in their Six Nations clash in Dublin on Saturday and ease the pressure on them landing their first wooden spoon since 1957, captain Thierry Dusautoir has demanded. The French have made their worst start to a Five/Six Nations since 1982 in losing their first three matches, and are the only side still to record a point. But they travel to Dublin at least in the knowledge they have lost only once to their opponents in their last 13 tests, the Irish Grand Slam in 2009.

RugbyU: Welsh defeat confirms Saint-Andre's worst fears

Philippe Saint-Andre did not want to enter into the debate over the overloaded French club schedule following the 16-6 defeat by Wales on Saturday, but it confirmed his worst fears prior to the Six Nations. The 45-year-old told AFP a fortnight ahead of the opening game with Italy he was concerned what state he would find the players in after a relentless series of club matches since they had last been together in November.

Rugby-Wales restore pride against wounded French

By Julien Pretot PARIS, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Wales restored their dented pride and inflicted a second straight defeat on France as the reigning champions ended an eight-match losing streak with a 16-6 win over the World Cup runners-up in the Six Nations on Saturday. Wales, who had not won a game since last year's victory against France in the Six Nations, defended fiercely throughout and wrapped it up thanks to a late moment of inspiration from Dan Biggar and try scorer George North.

RugbyU: French make two changes

France on Thursday announced two changes as they prepare to take on Grand Slam champions Wales in Saturday's Six Nations showdown in Cardiff. Both countries lost their opening encounters - France going down to Italy in Rome while Wales succumbed on home turf to Ireland. France manager Philippe Saint-Andre has brought in Toulon centre Mathieu Bastareaud in place of Florian Fritz, while Bastareaud's club teammate and second rower Jocelino Suta steps in for injured captain Pascal Pape. Toulouse flanker Thierry Dusautoir skippers the side.

RugbyU: Dusautoir restored to French captaincy

Thierry Dusautoir will captain France on Saturday against Wales in their Six Nations clash after coach Philippe Saint-Andre named his squad on Monday. The 31-year-old Dusautoir - capped 56 times with 33 of those as captain - returns to the captaincy as the man who replaced him as skipper, Pascal Pape, has been ruled out because of a back injury. Saint-Andre explained that Dusautoir had not been originally named captain because he was battling back after injury.
