Football: Newly promoted Hull sign Figueroa

Newly promoted English Premier League side Hull have signed Honduran international defender Maynor Figueroa on a free transfer, they said on Monday. The left-back, who was a free agent after his contract at Wigan Athletic expired, joins the Tigers on a two-year deal, the club said on its web site hullcityafc.net. The 30-year-old's arrival renews his association with Hull manager Steve Bruce, who first brought him to Britain when he was in charge of the Latics.

Football: Late goals give Honduras 2-2 draw against Mexico

Second-half strikes from Carlo Costly and Jerry Bengtson saw Honduras erase a two-goal deficit for a stunning 2-2 draw with Mexico in a 2014 World Cup qualifier on Friday. Costly's header in the 77th minute and Bengtson's 80th-minute blast -- off the rebound from his own saved penalty attempt -- cancelled out a pair of goals from Javier Hernandez in the 28th and 54th minute. The draw left Honduras atop the six-nation final qualifying group in North and Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF).

Soccer-U.S suffer World Cup blow with defeat in Honduras

Feb 6 (Reuters) - The United States suffered a 2-1 defeat to Honduras in San Pedro Sula on Wednesday in the opening game of their CONCACAF World Cup final qualifying round. Clint Dempsey put the U.S. ahead in the 35th minute but a brilliant bicycle kick from Juan Carlos Garcia brought Honduras level four minutes later. Honduras dominated the second half and went ahead in the 78th minute when striker Jerry Bengtson took advantage of some woeful defending and slotted into an empty net.
