Motorcycling: Pedrosa tops final Sepang MotoGP test

Honda's Dani Pedrosa set the pace on Thursday, the final day of the second MotoGP test at Sepang in Malaysia, while his new teammate Marc Marquez took second on a slippery circuit. The gap between the two Spanish riders was just 0.081 seconds and the pair edged out their traditional Yamaha rivals, Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi. After heavy overnight downpours, top riders including Lorenzo, Pedrosa, Marquez and Rossi earlier in the day had a chance to test their bikes' handling on a damp track on wet-weather tyres.

Spain's Dani Pedrosa remained the fastest rider on the final day of the first pre-season MotoGP testing at Malaysia's Sepang circuit on Thursday, but times stayed extremely close. Honda's Pedrosa had led the pack on Tuesday and Wednesday, and on Thursday he again edged out his countryman and Yamaha rival Jorge Lorenzo. While lap times improved across the board on a sunny final day, Honda's MotoGP rookie Marc Marquez suffered his first MotoGP fall this year during early testing but walked away unscathed.

Motorcycling: Pedrosa again fastest in Sepang testing

Spaniard Dani Pedrosa of Honda fought hard to set the quickest lap on Wednesday, the second day in pre-season MotoGP testing at Malaysia's Sepang circuit which saw rainfall towards the end of the session. Pedrosa was first on the timesheet with a fastest lap of 2 minutes 00.549 seconds, while reigning double champion Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha was 0.019 seconds slower, and Honda's star rookie Marc Marquez was 0.254 seconds off the pace.

Spain's Mark Marquez, in sizzling form since the start of three days of pre-season testing, said Wednesday it was a "dream come true" to race nine-times world champion Valentino Rossi and other top MotoGP riders. Marquez, 19, who won the Moto2 championship last year, has replaced the retired Australian Casey Stoner in the Honda team. On the first day of testing Tuesday at the Sepang circuit, the Spanish teenager was the third fastest rider behind his team-mate Dani Pedrosa and Yamaha's defending champion Jorge Lorenzo. Rossi came in fourth.

Nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi on Tuesday heaped praise on his Yamaha bike after finishing fourth on the first day of pre-season MotoGP testing at Malaysia's Sepang circuit on Tuesday. The Italian won four of his world championships with Yamaha before leaving for Ducati at the end of 2010, but has not won in the last 37 races. After briefly topping the fastest times, Rossi eventually clocked in just 0.427 seconds behind leader Dani Pedrosa (2:01.157) and enough to convince the great that his reunion with Yamaha can see him back to winning ways.
