RHP Jake Odorizzi made his first start for the Rays after being called up from Triple-A Durham and did not factor in the decision in Monday's 7-5 loss at Toronto. The 23-year-old made two starts with the Kansas City Royals last year. He was acquired with three other prospects -- OF Wil Myers, LHP Mike Montgomery and 3B Patrick Leonard -- in exchange for RHP James Shields, RHP Wade Davis and INF Elliot Johnson. In Monday's outing he allowed three runs, two in the first innings, one walk and five hits over five innings while striking out six.

OF Bryce Harper was out of the starting lineup for the second game in a row while recovering from surgery on an ingrown toenail. He has 10 homers and set a team record for homers in April. OF Eury Perez was summoned from Triple-A Syracuse, where he was hitting nearly .350 for manager Tony Beasley, a former Washington coach. Perez was retired in his only at-bat as he came in for Denard Span late in the game. Perez was a September call-up last year.

Hechavarria, who entered hitting .186 this season and had 18 RBIs in 185 career at-bats, capped a five-run first inning with a three-run triple and then chased Halladay (2-4) in the third with a grand slam. Justin Ruggiano homered twice and scored four times as the Marlins scored in double figures for the first time since Aug. 20.

Cowgill, who opened the sdeaosn as the starting center fielder, batted just .157 with two home runs and eight RBIs in 51 at-bats.
