Cricket: New Zealand win toss and bat against England in 2nd ODI

New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum won the toss and elected to bat against England in the second one-day international at Southampton on Sunday. England were unchanged from the side that lost the first of this three-match series by five wickets at Lord's on Friday. That meant there was no England debut for former Ireland paceman Boyd Rankin, called up into the squad on Friday following injuries to Stuart Broad (knee) and Steven Finn (shin soreness). New Zealand made one change with Doug Bracewell replacing rested fellow seamer Tim Southee.

Cricket: Bracewell given chance to make Test squad

Seamer Doug Bracewell will be added to New Zealand's squad for the third Test against England if he can prove he is match fit, coach Mike Hesson said Tuesday. Bracewell missed the first two Tests, earning a reprimand from management after he cut his foot while cleaning up broken glass after a house party earlier this month. Hesson said the 22-year-old would be confirmed in the squad if he came through a one-day domestic fixture in Christchurch on Wednesday unscathed. "Doug's availability creates a real battle for spots for this deciding Test against England," he said.

New Zealand fast bowler Doug Bracewell apologised Tuesday for an off-field incident in which he injured his foot, ruling him out of the opening Test against England in Dunedin. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said Bracewell cut his right foot on glass in an "unfortunate accident" while cleaning up at his Napier home on Saturday. New Zealand media reported the accident occurred after a party at Bracewell's house that attracted complaints from neighbours.
