France to honour film director Wong in Hong Kong

Chinese film director Wong Kar Wai will join one of the art world's most exclusive clubs on Sunday when he is appointed a Commander of France's Order of Arts and Letters. The renowned filmmaker is to be presented with the medallion awarded to recipients of France's highest cultural honour by Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius at the opening of the French May arts festival in Hong Kong.

Chinese film 'Mystery' wins Asian best picture

A Chinese drama that touches on sensitive topics including police corruption won the best picture at the Asian Film Awards Monday, while Japan's Takeshi Kitano scooped the best director gong. "Mystery", directed by Lou Ye, which reportedly upset Chinese censors for dealing with controversial issues such as graft and the behaviour of the country's new rich, also took home the best newcomer award, won by actress Qi Xi.

Hong Kong 'snake kings' stand the test of time

In a quiet corner of bustling Hong Kong, iron cages containing writhing serpents are stacked up at the entrance to an old shop that has been selling snake soup for more than a century. Inside more than 100 wooden drawers store hundreds of snakes, with more than half of them labelled "poisonous". Customers enjoy the thick broth made from the reptile's lean meat which costs HK$45 ($6) a bowl.
