Exclusive: Bob Lutz, Chinese in bid to buy Fisker Automotive - sources

By Deepa Seetharaman DETROIT (Reuters) - A boutique carmaker led by former General Motors Co executive Bob Lutz and China's largest auto parts supplier made an offer this month to buy cash-strapped "green" car company Fisker Automotive, people familiar with the matter said.

High end electric car maker Fisker Automotive, which has had financial difficulties for months, said Friday it was laying off 75 percent of its workforce. The US government had focused on the California-based company to encourage the development of green energy, providing it with loans. "Over the last several months, Fisker Automotive Inc. has been considering strategic alternatives that would allow the company work through its current financial challenges," said a company statement cited by the auto trade press.

Fisker Automotive founder quits over "major disagreements"

By Deepa Seetharaman DETROIT (Reuters) - The founder and executive chairman of Fisker Automotive Inc resigned from the cash-strapped "green car" startup on Wednesday, saying he was at odds with the automaker's top executives over business strategy. Henrik Fisker announced his abrupt departure from the maker of the Karma plug-in hybrid in an email. He declined to describe the nature of the disagreements that prompted him to leave the company, which he founded with Barny Koehler in 2007.
