Greenlight Re's Einhorn says he added to Apple position: call

NEW YORK (Reuters) - David Einhorn, hedge fund manager and chairman of reinsurer Greenlight Capital Re Ltd., said on Tuesday he had added to the firm's investment position in Apple Inc <AAPL.O>. "We've added to our Apple position; now we just wait for the release of Apple's next blockbuster product," Einhorn said on a conference call for his Cayman Island-based reinsurer. He also said that the regime change at the Bank of Japan supports his "long-term thesis" of a weaker yen and stronger gold.

US stocks drop; Apple gains on investor pressure

US stocks rebounded from early sharp losses but finished down Thursday amid some earnings disappointments, while Apple jumped after it said it was reviewing ways to return some of its $137 billion cash pile to investors. The Dow Jones Industrial Average shed 42.47 points (0.30 percent) at 13,944.05. The S&P 500 index dropped 2.73 points (0.18 percent) to 1,509.39, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite fell 3.35 (0.11 percent) to 3,165.13. Trade was lackluster amid some disappointing data showing productivity in the US economy fell in the fourth quarter.
