Strong euro pushes Finnair into loss

Finnish national carrier Finnair said Tuesday fourth quarter losses worsened as a strong euro hurt it on key Asian routes, but cost cutting measures helped it post an annual profit. Losses in the fourth quarter swelled to 13.6 million euros ($18.6 million) from 3.5 million euros a year earlier, while revenue for the period shrunk by 8.5 percent to 560.6 million euros. The airline's more profitable long-haul routes to Asia were impacted by currency effects linked to a strong euro.

Finnair says to receive A350s later than expected

Finnair, the launch company in Europe for Airbus' lightweight long-haul A350, said it would receive the first aircraft only in the second half of 2015 owing to production delays. Airbus, however, said there were no new delays in the project and that the first aircraft would be delivered to Qatar Airways in the second half of 2014 as currently foreseen. "We have 11 in firm orders but now eight options instead of four options," said Kati Ihamaki, Finnair's vice president for sustainable development.
