China, S. Korea finance ministers skip ASEAN-plus-3 meeting

The finance ministers of China and South Korea skipped a meeting of finance chiefs from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations plus Japan, China and South Korea on Friday in India, officials of the two countries said. The ASEAN-plus-three meeting was to be the only opportunity for the finance chiefs of the three East Asian countries to meet on the sidelines of the Asian Development Bank's annual meeting starting Saturday, as their trilateral meeting during the event was cancelled amid signs of discord.

Japan's finance ministry said Friday that China has cancelled a top annual finance meeting with Japan and South Korea, as tensions between Tokyo and Beijing soar over a territorial dispute. De Guindos: Banking union is Europe's most pressing issue

Washington, Apr 19 (EFE).- Spanish Finance Minister Luis de Guindos said here Friday that a proposed banking union is the most pressing issue for the European Union in the coming months as its seeks to spur growth in the crisis-hit region. De Guindos, who participated Friday in a meeting of G20 economy and finance ministers, said at a press conference that fragmented credit markets in the euro zone have become the primary obstacle to growth in Europe, especially in the southern countries.

S. Korea proposes $17.3 bn extra budget for 2013

South Korea proposed Tuesday a 17.3 trillion won ($15.4 billion) supplementary budget to help boost the economy, including further spending on defence at a time of heightened tensions with the North. The first fiscal stimulus package for four years, which requires parliamentary approval, will cover a 12-trillion won shortfall in revenue and provide 5.3 trillion won in new spending, the finance ministry said. The spending is mostly aimed at job creation, support for small and medium-sized firms and strengthening welfare programmes, a ministry statement said.
