Ski-jumping: Hendrickson pips Takanashi in Norway

World champion American Sarah Hendrickson won the Trondheim World Cup ski-jumping event on Friday ahead of Japanese teenager Sara Takanashi. It was the American's third win of the season as she scored 283 points to Takanashi's 274.9, with Austria's Jacqueline Seifriedsberger third on 271.2. It was the same podium finish as at the Worlds in Val di Fiemme last month. Although she missed out on victory in the penultimate World Cup event, Takanashi was already assured of winning the event's Crystal Globe as she held an unassailable lead. sg/bc/phz

Japanese favourite Sara Takanashi, the World Cup champion, had to settle for the silver medal in the women's ski jumping final at the Nordic world championships on Friday. The 16-year-old scored 251 points but was beaten into second spot by American rival Sarah Hendrickson who won gold with 253.7 points. Austria's Jacqueline Seifriedsberger claimed the bronze on 237.2 points. "Sarah is my favorite jumper. I admire her jumps, I look at the way she jumps during the competition and they were remarkable," said Takanashi.

Ski jumping: Japan's Takanashi racks up wins in Zao

World Cup points leader Sara Takanashi of Japan chalked up her fifth and sixth victories of the season in the ski jumping events in Zao, north of Tokyo, on Sunday. The 16-year-old leaped the longest jumps of 95.5 metres and 93.5m for 228.0 points among the 33 athletes to win the 11th leg, which had been postponed from Saturday due to strong winds. Jacqueline Seifriedsberger of Austria was second on 212.0 points, followed by Carina Vogt of Germany on 207.1 points.
