Information Minister Arif Nizami has said that equal coverage is being given to all the political parties on official media.Talking to media in Lahore on Monday, he said there will be no restrictions on media during the caretaker period.He urged the media to play its due role in ensuring free’ fair and transparent elections in the country.The Information Minister said that elections not be delayed even for a day under the constitution.

Several areas of Lahore plunged into darkness after more than 100 electricity distribution feeders’ closure.According to media reports, these areas included Wapda Town, Township, Green Town, Johar Town, Thokar Niaz Baig and others.Sources said LESCO power shortfall has exceeded 2000MW.Meanwhile, LESCO officials said the company was getting only 1000MW electricity instead of 3000MW, adding it was facing emergency situation. ‘We are saving system by closing down grids’, the official said.

Two MPAs sentenced for fake degrees and dual nationality

Courts in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa on Tuesday awarded sentences to two former MPAs for fake degrees and dual national. Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Member Provincial Assembly MPA Engineer Jawaid Tarakai has been sentenced to one year in jail and fined Rs 5000 by district and session judge Swabi, in a dual nationality case.He had a Canadian nationality however during 2008 election Javid Tarakaz had concealed his dual nationality.

ECP view sought on articles 61 and 62

The Lahore High Court Monday sought explanation from Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on constitutional petition seeking strict implementation of Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution.Justice Mansoor Ali Shah directed the law officers of the ECP and federal government to appear before the court on April 02 (today) and assist the court on the constitutional points raised in the petition.The petition was moved by a citizen, Munir Ahmad.
