UN Security Council extends sanctions on Liberia for another year UNITED NATIONS, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- The UN Security Council on Tuesday extended by another year the sanctions on Liberia in connection with the country's civil war as well as the panel of experts tasked with monitoring compliance with the measures. In an adopted resolution, the council determined that, despite significant progress, the situation in Liberia remains fragile and continues to constitute a threat to international peace and security in the region.

Plane carrying Guinea army delegation crashes in Liberia

A plane carrying a military delegation from Guinea to attend an annual armed forces day in Liberia crashed Monday in the Liberian town of Charlesville, Monrovia said. "There has been a plane crash in Charlesville at about five miles (eight kilometres) from the Roberts International Airport," said Liberian Information Minister Lewis Brown. Authorities do not yet know if there were casualties, nor what kind of plane was involved or how many people were on board, said Brown, who was on his way to the scene.
