Pregnant woman, 4 others electrocuted in Lagos stampede

A pregnant woman and four others were electrocuted on Thursday as they fled from a petrol fire in a densely-populated part of Nigeria's commercial capital Lagos, an emergency official said. Ibrahim Farinloye, of the National Emergency Management Agency, said the victims were killed as they fled an explosion, caused when a live wire fell on a car loaded with tanks of petrol. They were electrocuted when they ran into the power cable as they tried to escape the inferno, he added.

Sentencing for Calgary man for Stampede threats set for this week

CALGARY - A man who threatened to kill hundreds of people at last year's Calgary Stampede is scheduled to be sentenced this week. Patrick Deegan, who is 29, pleaded guilty in January to uttering death threats, possession of unauthorized firearms and two counts of breaching conditions. Deegan sent an email to the Calgary Fire Department in May 2013. In it he warned there was going to be a machine-gun attack at the Calgary Stampede and more than 1,000 casualties. Police found two improperly stored semi-automatic rifles and one hunting rifle at his parent's house.

Germany charges 10 over deadly 2010 Love Parade stampede

German prosecutors said Wednesday that 10 people have been charged with negligent manslaughter and causing bodily harm over the 2010 Love Parade stampede in which 21 people were killed. Those charged are four staff of the techno music festival organiser Lopavent and six members of the administration of the western city of Duisburg, said the city's chief prosecutor Horst Bien. "An event where people wanted to party, dance, have fun turned into a terrible tragedy," Bien told a press conference. "Twenty-one people had to die, hundreds were injured.

New Delhi, Oct 14 (EFE).- The death toll from a stampede at a Hindu temple in the central state of Madhya Pradesh stands at 110, Indian authorities said Monday. Another 100 people were injured, some of them badly, and bodies are still being pulled from the Sindh River, The Times of India said. The stampede took place Sunday on a bridge over the Sindh leading to a temple in the town of Ratangarh.
