Spain's Pullmantur rolls out year-round Caribbean cruises

Cartagena, Colombia, Jun 10 (EFE).- Spain's Pullmantur is making a big push to gain market share in the Caribbean cruise market. The cruise ship Monarch will be offering year-round voyages in the Caribbean from five ports, the company said. The Monarch, which can carry 2,769 passengers, has completed seven of the 53 voyages planned for the West Indies and southern Caribbean. The ship is one of the best options in the cruise market for tourists from around the world, especially Latin America, who want to explore the region.

Fire put out on Royal Caribbean cruise ship, no injuries

A fire broke out aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship early Monday, forcing the more than 2,000 guests aboard to gather at assembly areas while it was extinguished, the cruise line said. The company said the fire broke out at 2:50 am (0650 GMT) in a mooring area on the third deck of the Grandeur of the Seas as it was enroute to Coco Bay, Bahamas. The blaze was put out two hours later. "All 2,224 guests and 796 crew have been accounted for, and there have been no injuries of guests or crew reported," the cruise line said.

The bill of rights promises, among other things, full refunds for trips that are cancelled due to mechanical failure, and a backup power source on every ship to keep systems running in the event of a main generator failure.

GALVESTON, Texas - Royal Caribbean International says it'll begin sailing seven-day western Caribbean cruises out of Galveston year-round. The Miami-based cruise line says it'll base the 3,114-passenger Voyager-class Navigator of the Seas at Galveston in November, replacing its Mariner of the Seas. The Navigator will head for dry dock in January for a monthlong revitalization, then return to service in Galveston in February. Among the features to be added during the revitalization are a surf simulator, new restaurants and "virtual balconies" in some interior staterooms.
