Hamburg want to sign Paraguay forward Roque Santa Cruz, whose contract is up at Manchester City, the German club's new sporting director Oliver Kreuzer told Bild. Santa Cruz, 31, spent last season on loan at Spanish side Malaga. He failed to settle at City since his £17.5 million ($27.4 million, 20.6 million-euro) move from Blackburn Rovers in 2009. "When that kind of player is on the market you have to worry," said Kreuzer. "Santa Cruz is the kind of player we're looking for... and on top of that, he's available (for free), which is also important."

Tigre tops Libertad, advances to Copa Libertadores knockout phase

Asuncion, Apr 19 (EFE).- Argentine soccer club Tigre scored a 5-3 road victory here over Paraguay's Libertad behind two goals each by Matias Perez Garcia and Ruben Botta to advance to the knockout phase of the Copa Libertadores tournament. Botta found the back of the net in the 10th and 78th minutes, while Perez Garcia scored in the 28th and 54th minutes of Thursday's game at Dr. Nicolas Leoz Stadium in Asuncion. Gaston Diaz also added another goal for Tigre off a penalty kick in the 35th minute.

Paraguayan hooligans attacked several Argentine soccer fans who were being treated in a hospital in Paraguay's capital Asuncion for cuts and scrapes sustained during a regional tournament match, Argentine media sources reported Friday.The incident occurred Thursday following a Libertadores Cup game between Paraguayan team Olimpia and Argentine team Newell's, during which rocks and stones hailed on Newell's fans.Media reports said about a dozen hooligans "armed with sticks and knives" burst into Asuncion's Emergency Medical Center Thursday night and attacked the Argentine fans
