Snooker: Trump eases through at Crucible

Former finalist Judd Trump eased through to the second round of the snooker World Championship on Wednesday after finishing off Welshman Dominic Dale at the Crucible. Englishman Trump, 23, never looked in danger of joining the big names who have already been knocked out of this year's tournament as he produced breaks of 104, 73 and 61 to seal a 10-5 win after starting the morning session with a 6-3 overnight lead.

Snooker: Former champ Higgins crashes out

Four-time winner John Higgins was knocked out of the World Championship at the Crucible on Monday after a 10-6 defeat at the hands of journeyman professional Mark Davis. Scotland's Higgins trailed 6-3 overnight and was unable to rescue the match when play resumed on Monday, with the world number 16 from Sussex in southern England advancing to the second round. Higgins, who won the World Championship in 1998, 2007, 2009 and 2011, also lost to Davis at the UK Championship in December.

Snooker: China's Ding eases into Welsh Open semis

Defending champion Ding Junhui made light work of reaching the last four of the Wales Open with a 5-1 quarter-final win over England's Robert Milkins on Friday. The Chinese cueman has not won a major title since defeating Mark Selby in last year's final in south Wales. But he looked somewhere near his best form as breaks of 50, 104 and 74 allowed him to sprint into a 4-0 lead.

Snooker: Lee facing corruption hearing

English snooker player Stephen Lee's career was in the balance after he was told Thursday he has a "case to answer" by the sport's governing body following a match-fixing investigation. The 38-year-old is alleged to have breached World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) rules in matches at four tournaments, including the 2009 World Championship. Lee has been suspended by the WPBSA since October, after he was told he would not face a criminal prosecution over fixing allegations.
