Abusive curling coach slapped with lifetime ban

SEOUL, April 10 (Yonhap) -- A former assistant coach of the national women's curling team, fired for verbally abusing his athletes, was slapped with a lifetime ban from the sport on Thursday. The Korea Curling Federation announced that Choi Min-suk will be banned for life from curling, after officials determined last month that he had verbally abused the national curlers during a competition in December 2012 in Italy.

SEOUL, March 28 (Yonhap) -- The national governing body of curling said Friday it will look into allegations that coaches of the women's national curling team verbally abused their athletes. "We plan to convene a disciplinary committee meeting today to look into these allegations," said an official with the Korea Curling Federation.

World champions Sweden claimed the Olympic Games men's curling bronze on Friday with a 6-4 extra-end win over China. Victory also allowed the team, skipped by Niklas Edin, to put behind them the misery of the 2010 Vancouver Games, when they lost 5-4 to Switzerland in the bronze medal game. Wins from women's hockey, curling teams puts Canada in gold-medal hunt

SOCHI, Russia - Canada is starting to look golden again at the Sochi Olympics. A spirited comeback from the women's hockey team and a win by the women's curling foursome gave Canada its first double-gold day of the Games on Thursday. Canada has three gold medals in the last two days of competition after two-time Olympic women's bobsled champions Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse ended an eight-day gold drought on Wednesday.

Winnipeg skip Jennifer Jones wins Olympic curling gold after beating Sweden

SOCHI, Russia - Jennifer Jones won Olympic gold Thursday, surviving a nail-biting curling final to defeat Sweden 6-3. The Canadians stole two in the ninth after Sweden's Maria Prtytz wrecked her final shot. The Winnipeg skip has now added the Olympic title to the world championship she won in 2008 as well as four Canadian crowns. In the process, Jones, third Kaitlyn Lawes, second Jill Officer and lead Dawn McEwen matched Canadian skip Kevin Martin's feat of winning Olympic gold with a perfect 11-0 record.

Canada won their first Olympic women's curling gold since 1998 on Thursday when they defeated Sweden 6-3 in the final. Skipped by Jennifer Jones, who took to the rink appropriately wearing golden eye shadow, Canada ended Sweden's hopes of a third successive Olympic title. Canada also matched the achievement of compatriot Kevin Martin's men's team, who won the title in 2010 by going through the tournament undefeated.
