Khan's party seek cleric help in Taliban peace talks

Pakistani politician Imran Khan's party has sought the help of an elderly pro-Taliban cleric to initiate peace talks with the militants, party officials said Tuesday. Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) party approached Sami Ul-Haq, nicknamed the "Father of the Taliban", after emerging from elections as the largest party in the troubled northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Northwestern Pakistan is on the frontline of a nearly seven-year domestic Taliban insurgency and suffers near-daily bomb and shooting attacks blamed on militants.

10 Dead in bomb blast at Pakistan political rally

Islamabad, May 6 (EFE).- At least 10 people died and about 30 were wounded Monday when a bomb went off at an election rally in the northwestern Kurram tribal zone, a Pakistani official told Efe. The attack was staged when a candidate for the religious Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party was getting ready to address a group of followers ahead of next Sunday's nationwide legislative elections, according to a local Kurram official.

At least 15 people were killed and 70 injured in a bomb explosion Monday in a public meeting in a Pakistani tribal area bordering Afghanistan, police and administration officials said. They said a planted device went off during an election campaign meeting held by the Jamiat Ulema Islam-F party at a religious school in Kurram Agency bordering Afghanistan's Paktika Province. The explosion occurred a few meters from the main platform as the participants were dispersing.

Bomb kills 14 at Pakistan election rally

Fourteen people were killed when a bomb tore through a Pakistan election rally in the northwestern tribal belt on Monday, an official said. More than 50 others were wounded in the attack and the death toll could rise further, administrative official Riaz Khan told AFP.
