Choi holds one-shot lead midway through LPGA second round

(Reuters) - Chella Choi of South Korea shot a one-over-par 73 to hold on to a one-stroke lead midway through Saturday's second round of the weather-delayed LPGA Championship at Locust Hill outside Rochester, New York. Choi, the overnight leader by one after an opening 67, reached six under par when she birdied her second hole of the day but went on to post three bogeys to reach the halfway mark of the tournament on four-under-par 140.

Golf: Gulbis withdraws from LPGA event with malaria

The LPGA Tour has stepped up its healthcare services for players and caddies taking part in this week's Founders Cup tournament, following Natalie Gulbis' withdrawal Wednesday due to malaria. The American pulled out of the tournament after becoming ill while playing in a LPGA Tour event two weeks ago in Singapore. "Natalie originally became ill in Singapore," the LPGA Tour said in a statement. "Natalie continues to be treated at home and is expected to be at full strength in three weeks.

Golf: Treble-seeking Tseng clings to top ranking

Two-time defending champion Tseng Yani will seek her first victory in nearly a year at the Honda LPGA Thailand this week as she clings to her position as world number one. The 24-year-old "Pride of Taiwan" has topped the world rankings for 106 weeks but she arrives at Pattaya's Siam Country Club defending a precarious 1.29 points lead over South Korea's Choi Na-Yeon. One year ago, Tseng's second straight win at the Thai event seemed to herald another season of dominance but the victories dried up in March, raising pressure on the young star.

Golf: Shin pips Ko to Australian Women's Open title

South Korea's world number eight Shin Ji-Yai won the Women's Australian Open Sunday, ending two strokes clear of Taiwan's top-ranked Tseng Yani and four ahead of teen star Lydia Ko at 18-under. Shin took an early lead in the fourth and final round at the Royal Canberra Golf Club, expected to be a shot-for-shot contest with New Zealand amateur Ko, 15, who was chasing an historic second US LPGA win. But her day got off to a terrible start with a double bogey on the first hole and a bogey on the second, allowing Shin to slip to a three-shot advantage with a birdie.
