Cuban blogger Yoani Sanchez thanks Spanish lawmakers for support

Madrid, Apr 24 (EFE).- Cuban blogger Yoani Sanchez visited the lower house of the Spanish Parliament on Wednesday and praised the "solidarity" of Spanish lawmakers with the Cuban people and with the struggle for democracy by the island's civil activists and dissidents. Sanchez met with representatives of the lower house's Foreign Affairs Committee, with the exception of members of the United Left, or IU.

Yoani Sanchez to be awarded FIU Medallion of Courage

Miami, Feb 23 (EFE).- Cuban blogger Yoani Sanchez will receive on April 1 in Miami the Florida International University Medallion of Courage, which is awarded "to recognize individuals who pursue or defend a noble cause at a personal cost," the institution said. "Yoani is an important voice in public discussions about Cuba's present and future," Cuban Research Institute Director Jorge Duany said.

Dissident blogger allowed to leave Cuba on tour

Cuban dissident blogger Yoani Sanchez, who has been denied permission to travel abroad for many years, was allowed on Sunday to embark on a three-month trip to Latin America and Europe. "My trip will begin in Brazil and could take me to as many as 12 countries," Sanchez told AFP. "With this tour, I am starting a new phase in my life and what will also be a wonderful experience journalistically," she said, shortly before boarding a flight that was to take her to Brazil via Panama.
