SEOUL, March 27 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Electronics Co., the world's top smartphone maker, is likely to see another record for smartphone sales in the first quarter despite seasonally low demand, a report showed Wednesday. Samsung Electronics has sold an estimated 25 million smartphones each month this year, which is expected to drive its quarterly sales to over 70 million units, according to the report by Hong Kong-based market researcher Counterpoint Research.

SEOUL, March 13 (Yonhap) -- A total of 67 percent of South Korean mobile subscribers used smartphones, surpassing usage rates in other major economies, data showed Wednesday. In a survey of 10 countries, South Korea had the highest rate of smartphone usage, surpassing China's 66 percent and Australia's 65 percent, according to the data from U.S. market researcher Nielsen. The figure was higher than 62 percent in Italy, 61 percent in Britain and 53 percent in the United States.

Smartphone sales to top 900 million in 2013: survey

Smartphone sales are expected to extend their strong growth trend in 2013 with some 918 million units worldwide, led by gains in big emerging markets China, Brazil and India, a survey showed Monday. The research firm IDC said 2013 will be the first year smartphones will outsell the more basic feature phones in the mobile market, and will account for 50.1 percent of all mobile phones.

China's Huawei claims world fastest smartphone

China's Huawei, the number three smartphone maker behind giants Samsung and Apple, unveiled Sunday a new mobile, the Ascend P2, which it claims is the fastest in the world. Sharp-cornered and thinner than a pencil at 8.4 mm, the company said it can achieve speeds of 150 Mbps, fast enough to download a two-hour high-definition movie in less than five minutes. The mobile, which has a 4.7-inch, high definition screen, has a powerful 1.5 GHz quad-core processor and is able to use the fourth-generation high speed mobile networks being rolled out worldwide.

LG unveils new full-HD smartphone

LG Electronics unveiled Monday the latest version of its flagship smartphone, boasting a higher resolution screen aimed at gaining a technical edge over bigger rivals like Samsung. The Optimus G Pro -- the newest version of the Optimus G series and the first LG smartphone offering a full high-definition (HD) screen -- will hit stores at home Wednesday, the South Korean firm said. The new handset is powered by Android software and measures 15.2 centimetres (5.98 inches) long and 7.6 centimetres wide. It goes on sale in Japan and North America in the second quarter.
