John Lennon drawings, poems coming up for auction

The biggest private collection of John Lennon drawings, poems and prose ever to go to market will be sold by Sotheby's in New York on June 4, the international auction house said Monday. The items comprise the original material that appeared in two books by the late Beatle -- "In His Own Write," published 50 years ago this year, and "A Spaniard in the Works" that hit the best-seller lists in 1965.

Not content with writing a best-selling autobiography, Rolling Stone guitarist Keith Richards now is coming out with his first children's book in September, publishing house Little, Brown said Tuesday. "Gus and Me: The Story of My Granddad and My First Guitar" harks back to the rocker's childhood when his grandfather, Theodore Augustus "Gus" Dupree, a big-band musician, introduced him to the instrument that would define his life.

Yoko Ono asks Japan dolphin fishermen to stop

The Japanese widow of John Lennon on Monday added her voice to pleas to dolphin fishermen that they stop their hunt, days after the US ambassador to Tokyo waded into the row. Yoko Ono published an open letter to the men of Taiji, the small town made famous by the Oscar-winning film "The Cove" which depicts the annual bloodbath, in which she urged them to halt the cull for the "future of Japan".

A sobering image of John Lennon's bloodstained glasses ricocheted around the Internet on Thursday after his widow Yoko Ono posted them on Twitter in an appeal for tougher US guns laws. "The death of a loved one is a hollowing experience. After 33 years, our son Sean and I still miss him," said Ono in a tweet to her 3.7 million followers on Wednesday, the 44th anniversary of her marriage to the Beatle.
